Transparency and Financial Accountability

Financial Information
At CHA, we pride ourselves on being diligent stewards of every dollar. Each year, we undergo a rigorous external audit and publish an annual report highlighting our financial health and program impact. The annual audit is the most comprehensive way to view CHA’s financial information as it consolidates the financial information of all five business units within our parent company structure.
Organizational Structure
Children’s Hope Alliance is the nonprofit entity that serves as the parent and public brand of a family of affiliated §501(C)(3) entities that together form one of NC’s oldest and largest providers of services for vulnerable children and families. The consolidated family has a 130+ year history rooted in tradition, tracking back to the 1891 founding of Presbyterian home for Children at Barium Springs and the founding of Grandfather Home for Children in Banner Elk. The two historical entities merged in 2014 to form Children’s Hope Alliance. The consolidated family is composed of five affiliated entities, each with a distinct function. All five entities are included in the consolidated audited financial statements prepared annually by the organization’s independent CPA Firm.

- Barium Springs Home for Children (BSHC): BSHC serves as the licensed operating entity for all direct programmatic services including trauma-informed therapeutic programs, foster care, and early intervention services. - Children’s Hope Alliance Foundation (CHAF): CHAF is the endowment and fundraising arm and is a Type I supporting organization under §509(A)(3) that holds and stewards the consolidated organization’s endowment and conducts major fundraising activity.
