Outpatient Services

What We Offer
Our Outpatient Services team has one focus: the well-being of the whole person. We work with children, teens, adults, and families to develop skills and mindset needed to transcend challenges and live a life of emotional health.
Children’s Hope Alliance’s Outpatient Services offer both assessment and treatment for various needs in mental and behavioral health. Services are offered in diverse modalities through a comprehensive service array, using evidence-based and evidence-informed practice. The overall objective during treatment is to support clients as they explore feelings, behaviors, and thought patterns to work toward improved functioning and overall fulfillment.
What We Do
Most therapy sessions are scheduled for one hour, and the frequency of sessions is based on individual client needs. Sessions provide opportunities to explore the need and motivation for change, improve relationships, learn effective problem-solving skills, and understand how to effectively navigate internal and external conflict. Clients typically participate in therapy services for 4-12 months, or until treatment goals are met.
Our team of experienced clinicians are, at their core, person and family-centered, holistic, and systemic in nature. Some of the models commonly employed in services include: Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).

Appointments
Appointments are typically available 8am-5pm. Hours of operation may vary by location, and after-hours appointments may be available by request. To schedule an appointment, call our Centralized Scheduler at 844-226-8855 or complete the form on our website.
Insurance
We accept Medicaid, NC Health Choice, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, UHC/OPTUM, and private pay for our Outpatient Services.
Our School-Based Therapy Program

We have dedicated school-based therapists in Watauga County schools and Mooresville Graded schools. These therapists support the social-emotional development of students struggling with mental health or behavioral issues. Our services are proven to minimize classroom disruptions, support the school community, and use evidence-based, trauma-focused therapy to assist students in need.

Meet Malik
Everything frustrated Malik. It didn’t matter what he did, he could feel the anger building up inside him just waiting to get out. No one would tell him what to do – he was 13, just under six feet tall, and big as any man his mother brought home. He didn’t care who it was – they weren’t going to boss him around or hurt him the way the grown men in his life had hurt him.
He yelled at teachers, he screamed at his parents. Malik was suspended from school more days than he could remember being in class. The last time was the worst. His brother just wouldn’t back down. He had to teach him a lesson. Except that he couldn’t stop himself from hitting him over and over. He couldn’t stop himself from throwing things around the room. It was like the rage just controlled him and took over.
At that point, Malik’s mom had to do something. She feared for the safety of both of her sons, and for herself. She knew Malik needed help. That’s when she learned about the Outpatient Services offered at Children’s Hope Alliance.
Initially, Malik was hesitant. He didn’t know what to expect from a therapist. He didn’t know how he should act or what types of questions he would be asked. After a couple of sessions, Malik was able to talk about what bothered him, why he felt he had to yell and hit. And the therapist was able to help him see there were alternatives – other things he could do to solve the problem. Together they came up with what his therapist called “coping skills.”
Over time, it worked. Malik still gets frustrated, but now he is more able to control his emotions. He gets along (for the most part) with his siblings and he can talk with his mother when he gets upset. Things aren’t perfect, but for this family things are a whole lot better.
Child’s name and photo have been changed for his protection, but his story is very real
