Teaching Family Model

What is the Teaching Family Model?
The Teaching-Family Model (TFM) is a comprehensive, relationship-focused, and evidence-based approach to supporting another person’s growth. While TFM is rooted in cognitive behavioral theory and is trauma informed, the concepts can be used with any service population or individual. The key skills of TFM include professionalism, relationships, teaching, child/individual focused, self-determination, and family style living.
How Do We Implement the Teaching Family Model?
Children’s Hope Alliance has been an accredited member agency of the Teaching Family Association since 2003. CHA currently utilizes the TFM in our Foster Care, Child ACTT, and Day Treatment programs with the plan to implement the TFM in other agency programs in the future. CHA uses the TFM as a guide to help our staff know how to support other staff, clients, and families to learn and grow related to their goals. Similarly, CHA recognized that we are all growing and learning and uses the model to help management and administrative staff to supervise using the same skills and concepts. As a result, the TFM is fully integrated within CHA as a TFM agency, on both the client and organizational level.
