Recently, we celebrated an incredible milestone for two young men in our foster care program!
After experiencing multiple foster care placements, Ciaran and Timothy were placed in the care of one of CHA’s incredible foster parents, Miss Penny. With her support, along with their own hard work and determination, both young men graduated from high school and were accepted into the HOPE Program at Livingstone College on full scholarships! Their achievements make this moment even more meaningful when you consider how far they have come.
Ciaran’s Transformation
When Ciaran entered care, he struggled academically and lacked motivation in school. Over time, consistent support and his growing determination helped him reshape his educational journey. He not only earned his high school diploma but also graduated with A/B Honor Roll recognition. This was an accomplishment that reflected the effort he invested in building a brighter future for himself.
Beyond the classroom, Ciaran participated in track and field and ROTC, experiences that gave him additional opportunities to develop discipline and confidence. At Livingstone College, he plans to study Mathematics and explore his interest in accounting.
Timothy’s Perserverance
Timothy’s journey is equally inspiring. When he arrived in his foster home, he faced significant academic challenges, including not knowing how to read. With tutoring, daily support, school advocacy, and tremendous perseverance, Timothy continued moving forward one step at a time. He ultimately achieved something he once thought was impossible: graduating from high school.
Timothy also participated in ROTC and marching band, demonstrating his willingness to stay engaged and take on new challenges. At Livingstone College, he plans to major in Business with a minor in Criminal Justice as he begins the next chapter of his education.
Ciaran’s and Timothy’s stories remind us that a young person’s past does not have to determine their future. Their success shows that when young people are surrounded by support and hope, extraordinary things are possible. Miss Penny’s care and willingness to open up her home helped change the trajectory of Ciaran and Timothy’s lives.
