LET YOUR LOVE BE THE DIFFERENCE TO A TEEN

Let Your Love Be The Difference To A Teen

Fostering a teen will pave the path directing an at-risk kid towards a prosperous future. Love makes all the difference! Teenage years are so important to feel loved and accepted. No child asks to be in a foster situation but the feeling of rejection can stir all kinds of emotions. Children are not usually mature enough to know how to manage their emotions without a loving adult to help guide their way. When a teen pushes you away, they probably want to be held closer. Be the bond that makes a difference.

Teens that age out of the foster care system are more likely to experience:

  • Teen pregnancy
  • Alcohol and drug abuse
  • Physical and sexual abuse
  • Incarceration
  • Poverty
  • Homelessness

More than 15,000 18-year-olds will age out of foster care without finding an adoptive family.

Traumatic reactions in infants:

The benefits go both ways. You rescue these lost teenagers and they rescue you opening up your worlds to meaningful experiences. Click here (www.childrenshopealliance.org/get-involved) to learn more about making an impact on a teen!

Children do not outgrow the need for a family when he/she turns 18. Fostering and loving a teen continues with them as they are adults. They will always have someone to turn to for advice with big life decisions, someone to meet their significant other, a place to go for the holidays, and a shoulder to cry on when life does not go as planned.

Don’t let fostering a teen daunt you. Just like other parents, foster parents of teens stress the importance of setting boundaries, being consistent, calm, fair and enforcing consequences for poor choices (not doing homework or chores, acting out due to anger, skipping classes, etc.). Click here (parenting tips page) for more helpful parenting tips and to join the foster care community. We make fostering long-term and foster-to-adopt simple with resources and agencies to help every step of the way. We want each placement to be perfect so it is the permanent placement in a thriving home. These are the kids that need a foster home the most. CHA stands out because we never leave your side.

The Child ACTT team wrapped around Chloe and her family. They helped her to gain the skills she needed to develop a sense of self-control, and they helped her family learn how to support her when things felt out-of-control. Read more about Chloe here.

If you need more assistance, speaking with your family pediatrician is a good start, as they can help connect you to a mental health professional.
